CH25 is one of the first chairs Hans J. Wegner created exclusively for Carl Hansen & Søn in 1949 and its introduction caused a stir given the designer’s choice of woven paper cord for the backrest and seat — a material that had not been used in furniture before. However, Wegner was enthusiastic about the look of the material and its non-stretching and optimal durability, and appealing to generations after him. It takes a skilled craftsman 10 hours and about 400 meters of paper cord to complete a seat and backrest by hand via the particular technique akin to weaving, visible on both sides of the backrest for a striking chair from all angles.
